With 8 full time artists, Black Eagle Tattoo is the largest tattoo studio in the Charleston area. Owners Nick Quinn and Kevin Adams are leaders in the industry, setting high standards with their extremely talented and professional staff and exceptionally clean and sterile environment.
Company Story
Although it had opened in 2009, Black Eagle still lacked a website. Owner Nick Quinn said, “I had looked at some of those cookie-cutter, build-your-own website deals, and I just didn’t have the time for it.” The project remained on hold until Jamie of Bricks Without Straw stopped by the shop to discuss getting his own tattoo by Quinn. Their conversation turned to websites, and Jamie invited Quinn to check out Jamie’s portfolio online. “I was impressed, so we discussed having him take it over for us.”
Showing Jamie other tattoo shop websites that he liked, Quinn had a straightforward request for Black Eagle’s site. “I wanted something that was simple, yet still effective. Something that would show off our portfolio, show off the cleanliness of the shop, and give people an idea of what we’re about.”
Getting It Right
Quinn’s response to Jamie’s website design for Black Eagle? “He nailed it.”
Jamie created a streamlined site, with a format that allows customers to easily view artist portfolios and find contact information. Quinn said, “Everybody is impressed with how well laid-out (the site is) and easy to navigate. Just lots of compliments, really.”
Per Quinn’s request, Jamie also built an electronic reference upload, enabling customers to easily communicate their ideas to Quinn and his staff. “Somebody would email me something as simple as, ‘Hey, I want to schedule an appointment,” but it would have no other information with it. So I gave Jamie a list of questions that would help take the back and forth out of scheduling and asked him to put together something that would give me all the information at once. (Now customers) can describe the tattoo that they want and upload pictures and it just streamlines everything. It makes it really easy for us.” Black Eagle’s customers like the new feature and so do other tattoo shop owners. “I’ve actually had a few contact me about it.”

Complementing the Image
Emphasizing pictures by photographer Chris Gossses, the visually stunning site captures the intensity of the shop’s artists and the outstanding quality of their work; the photographs also highlight the hygienic environment that Quinn and co-owner Adams have strived to create.
Quinn feels the website really communicates Black Eagle’s image. “People look at the quality of the site and the photography that shows the work here and the clean room, and it just definitely paints a picture for people that haven’t been to the shop before. Being here as long as we have been, it’s not as common to have people coming in who haven’t experienced the shop in the past, but the ones who haven’t definitely are impressed with both the website and how well the shop is put together. They complement each other well.”
Accessible and Professional
As he worked with Jamie through the website build, Quinn was impressed with Jamie’s accessibility. “He is definitely always there when I need him and very prompt with anything I need done; it’s usually within minutes.” Quinn, known for his own high standards, also noted Jamie’s professionalism. “He carries himself very well; he’s got a good head on his shoulders.”
